Fees & Fines
Our commitment to finding loving homes for lost and unwanted cats and dogs does not mean we act as a “DOG CATCHER” and we are not the “POUND”
We work hand in hand with the Town of Bonnyville and the MD of Bonnyville to keep lost dogs safe until owners are able to come take them home (Best case scenario). We need approval before accepting any stray dog at the shelter.
The SPCA is simply the “Caretaker” for the animals brought in by the Town or MD of Bonnyville.
All fines must be paid to either the MD or the Town depending on where the animal came from. For animals accepted from the public fees are paid directly to shelter.
We are not allowed to release any animal until all fines are paid at either the Town office, MD office or shelter.
Any fees paid to the SPCA are strictly for room, board and care until the animal is claimed.
How Long Are Animals Kept By the SPCA?
An owner has 72 hours to claim their animal, this does not include weekends or holidays. Animals requiring emergency Vet care will be taken to the Vet, after which if the animal is claimed by the owner, the SPCA may request to be reimbursed for those expenses
Purebred dogs are held for 10 days, weekends included.
Within the MD an owner has 48 hours to claim their animal, this includes Saturdays but not holidays.
If dogs are not claimed within the time frame allotted by the Town or MD, the animal becomes the property of the
SPCA. At that time we care for that animal’s health needs and do our best to place the dog in a loving home.
